How Trauma Therapy Can Help You Reclaim Your Peace
Living with trauma can make it challenging to find peace. Trauma often creates a hypervigilant state, where the body and mind are on constant alert. This “fight or flight” response can disrupt sleep, increase irritability, and even lead to physical health issues (Friedman et al., 2007). Many trauma survivors find it difficult to relax, even in safe environments.
Therapies like EMDR and Brainspotting work by helping the brain process traumatic memories and re-establish a sense of safety. Studies show that EMDR can be particularly effective in reducing PTSD symptoms and restoring a sense of calm, with many clients experiencing long-lasting benefits (Shapiro, 2014). Brainspotting similarly helps calm the nervous system by identifying and processing trauma stored in deeper brain structures, offering relief from hypervigilance and anxiety (Corrigan & Grand, 2013).
In my practice, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing clients rediscover peace. Many find that once they begin to process their trauma, they experience greater calm, sleep better, and even notice improvements in their physical health. Healing trauma is a journey, but it can lead to profound peace.
